Paper Wings and Auctions Ending 6/23

Paper Wings

So creative and fun! And I'm fortunate to have a beautiful bustled culotte set to auction this week. UNFORTUNATELY, it's a relist, and was left at 5 days, so it will end on Sunday, FATHER'S DAY. Ack! Well, that's how it goes. It has a reserve, but since it's only been worn once (and still fits), we're not in a hurry to sell it. On the other hand, Paper Wings is beautiful and expensive. This is a chance to own one of these gorgeous creations for a much lower price.

I love the way Paper Wings describes its designs (from paperwings.com.au):

"PAPER WINGS – Celebrating Childhood.

Welcome to PAPER WINGS, a creative mix of past, present and future ideas in children’s product design.
At PAPER WINGS, our focus is on enhancing the lives of children by creating products that positively influence the way they look, feel, play and experience their environment. All pieces are designed to be ‘every day favourites’ - lovingly worn out rather than outgrown.

Jason Gibaud and Michelle Fallon provide the artistic vision and technical expertise behind our unique company. The inherent beauty and function of PAPER WINGS collections reflects Jason and Michelle’s success in costume design, feature film production and their combined experience in architecture & interior design. The joy of raising their own children, Vevette and Esther, is also key to the practicality, comfort and great fun inherent in all PAPER WINGS products.

PAPER WINGS design influences are wonderfully eclectic, with strong links to historical shapes, traditional crafts, and to both vintage and contemporary graphics. With a professional background in internationally acclaimed feature films such as Moulin Rouge, Star Wars and Peter Pan, Jason and Michelle have evolved many fresh and unusual approaches to range development.
All collections are individually manufactured and most importantly, hand finished with the greatest care. PAPER WINGS is committed to providing premium quality products, utilising the finest natural fibres. The breathtaking rural setting of our design studio in Northern New South Wales, Australia, is a great source of inspiration.

PAPER WINGS celebrates the freedom of being children, looking like children and - most importantly - feeling like children."

At first I was thinking that children really couldn't wear this stuff just everyday. But you know, it's all machine washable. Why not? I've always been the advocate for buying special, unique things for children and really letting them wear them. What's the point in having it, if you aren't using it? It's the exact same amount of laundry. And you KNOW these little girls just LOVE to dress up fancy, crazy, different, in their bright colors & ruffles. Children really express themselves with what they choose to wear, in a way that is completely unencumbered by the adult sense of appropriateness. I do draw the line with weather-appropriate, but otherwise...why not just get her some bustled culottes and let her wear them to the park??

And yes, I do use my wedding china too. I've always had a saying, "If you die with service for 12, you haven't lived." Risk breaking a few plates. You'll be happier.
